Toddlers at Townsend Montessori Nurseries
Encouraging creativity, learning and independence for children between 1 and 2 years old
We design our toddler rooms to allow the children the maximum potential for activity and learning. Each child’s daily routine incorporates activities that encourage creative and physical development, and their progress is well documented by the staff team, who operate at a 3:1 ratio of staff to children, as per Ofsted guidelines.
Our toddler rooms are all bright and spacious, with furniture made from natural materials and at the perfect height to allow children to be independent in selecting their own toys and activities.
Townsend Montessori toddler rooms include a playhouse with slide, tunnel and slope, where children can develop their gross motor skills. Your child is encouraged to take part in role play, messy play, arts and crafts, puzzles, reading, using ride-on toys, and much more.
Your toddler can engage in creative play using malleable materials, sand and water, textures for experimentation, sensorial development, and mark making using a range of different materials. Creative play is an important part of your child’s development and is therefore incorporated into the routine on a daily basis.
Our toddler rooms include a sleep room and baby changing facilities. Staff check sleeping children every 10 minutes for their safety.
Meals and nutrition
Townsend Montessori Nurseries provide your child with healthy and nutritious cooked meals, along with healthy snacks and drinks. Your toddler will be encouraged to feed themselves with as much support from the staff as they require.
Your toddler’s day will be recorded in detail, and you are more than welcome to read the notes. We document what your child has eaten, how long they have slept for, their nappy changes, and the activities in which they have taken part. Our staff team are always available to talk with you about your child’s day and to give you feedback.
Your child’s key person will also document observations and reports on your child’s progress and development. Activities are planned around your child’s individual interests and needs.
When your child is nearly old enough to move up to the next age group and change room, we’ll organise visits with their new key person, who will work to make their transition as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
